In the exclusive realm of high-performance yachts, speed and comfort are almost always inversely related. For a discerning buyer seeking a series model that effortlessly surpasses 45 knots while retaining the spacious, luxurious liveability of a proper cruising vessel—complete with a full-beam owner’s suite and dedicated guest staterooms—the available options are exceedingly limited. The Pershing 8X, which debuted at the 2019 Boot Düsseldorf, solved this fundamental conflict, positioning itself as a rare yacht that refuses to compromise on either duality.

This achievement is a triumph of design and engineering, forged through a partnership between designer Fulvio De Simoni, the Ferretti Group’s Product Strategy Committee, led by Piero Ferrari, and the Group’s Engineering Department. The yacht’s performance is objectively confirmed by BOATPro data, which places the Pershing 8X in the top 5 percent of all yachts globally by speed.

The mandate for the 8X was ambitious: it had to fundamentally improve upon its successful predecessor, the Pershing 82, by adding 14 inches of beam and delivering significantly more interior volume to enhance liveability. These increases in size and volume typically introduce greater drag and substantial weight, factors fatal to the top-speed potential of any surface-drive yacht. The engineering team’s central challenge was to expand the yacht in all critical dimensions while ensuring the final weight remained virtually unchanged.

The solution was a decisive shift to advanced materials. The yacht’s entire superstructure is constructed from carbon fiber, utilizing a sophisticated vacuum-infused epoxy resin process, rather than the conventional vinylester method. This application delivered a hull that is structurally stiffer, lighter, and allowed for a larger overall envelope than a traditional GRP build would permit. Astonishingly, despite being wider and longer than the 82, the 8X is only approximately 700 kilograms to 1 metric tonne heavier. This engineering feat successfully safeguarded its performance potential. The vessel’s 48-knot top speed is realized by twin MTU 16V 2000 diesel engines, which drive TopSystem surface drives—a technology that dramatically cuts drag by allowing the propellers to break the water’s surface.

Beyond raw speed, the 8X is uniquely user-friendly. The EasySet integrated propulsion control system unifies joystick maneuvering (active up to 42 knots), automatic trim for the drive legs and flaps, and a dynamic positioning system into a single interface. This integration makes the intense performance genuinely manageable for owners who prefer to pilot their own vessel.

While faster yachts in this class often resemble thinly accommodated racing machines, the Pershing 8X yacht is designed for real life at sea. The lower deck is dedicated to comfort, featuring four ensuite staterooms, including a voluminous full-beam owner’s suite with its own lounge and large hull windows. Accommodation also includes a VIP suite forward, two twin staterooms, and berths for up to four crew. Innovative design elements further enhance the living space, such as a drop-down glass wall in the main salon that removes the separation between the cockpit and the interior at the touch of a button, and a signature carbon wing staircase that intelligently frees up valuable cockpit area below.

With over 25 hulls delivered and currently under construction since 2019, the Pershing 8X remains a highly sought-after model.
